Welcome
If you're interested in Camas County, Idaho history, you'll enjoy the Whistle Stop, the new newsletter of the Camas County Historical Society. It's a perk of renewing your membership with the society for $15/year. I'm excited that the first issue is now in print! It features my article on the Muffley family. Several members of the Muffley family have graciously shared their time, photos and heirlooms with me and allowed me to share them with others through my writing. Contact the historical society at P.O. Box 571, Fairfield, ID 83327.
I recently encountered the book, The Boise Massacre on the Oregon Trail, by Donald H. Shannon. Don is a fellow member of the Oregon-California Trails Association whom I've since met. The book describes an 1854 Indian attack on the Perry wagon train along the Jeffrey-Goodale Cutoff, then known as Jeffrey's Road. This alternate spur of the Oregon Trail includes sections in Camas County, where I live, and in Elmore County, where the "mini-massacre" occurred. On Sept. 14 my family made an outing of finding the massacre site. Based on maps and directions provided by some of my other OCTA friends, we were able to find it with no trouble. We also had a fun picnic at Castle Rocks. More photos soon!
